HDR Engineering is currently seeking a Transmission Line EIT to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Fargo, North Dakota.

Primary Responsibilities

You will be part of a rapidly growing team working on a variety of exciting projects that will test your engineering skills and set you on a path for career growth. As an integral part of a team, you will prepare engineering designs of high voltage transmission lines ranging in scale from simple structure replacements to large greenfield design projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who is eager to learn and take on new challenges.

• Working under the direction of Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s) your role may encompass the following:
• Preparing conceptual and detailed transmission line designs.
• Modelling transmission lines using PLS-CADD software including line routing, structure spotting, structure selection and design, hardware selection and fit-up, and conductor selection.
• Performing associated structural and clearance calculations and checks in accordance with applicable industry codes.
• Preparing foundation designs using software such as LPile, Caisson or MFAD
• Preparing construction packages for high voltage transmission lines including plan and profiles, structure load trees, structure assemblies and details, stringing charts, foundation schedules and details, and bills of material.
• Liaising and communicating closely with internal and external project stakeholders, including environmental, real estate, construction, maintenance, substation, telecommunications, and project management.
• Working with Designers or CAD Technicians to develop drawings.
• Effectively managing multiple tasks for multiple projects
• Performing site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects
• Occasional short-term travel (typically 1-2 days) may be necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related engineering degree
• EIT certification required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and confident verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated and ability to take initiative.
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in the consulting or electrical utility environment.
• Some experience in overhead transmission line design preferred.
• Experience interpreting and applying requisite industry design codes and standards. such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE and ACI.
• Experience using PLS-CADD for analysis and design of transmission (or distribution) lines.
• Understanding of geotechnical reports and experience in foundations design using software such as LPile, Caisson or MFAD considered a plus.
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation considered a plus.
